Communicable Disease Prevention and Investigation

Communicable Disease Prevention and Investigation

Protecting the health of our community is the top priority for Herkimer County Public Health. Our Communicable Disease Program is dedicated to identifying, investigating, and preventing the spread of infectious diseases to ensure the well-being of all residents.

How We Work to Protect the Community

Our team works closely with New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), healthcare providers, and other community partners to:

  • Investigate cases of reportable communicable diseases.
  • Identify and respond to potential and active disease outbreaks.
  • Provide education and guidance to individuals, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Conduct contact tracing as required by NYSDOH to limit disease spread.
  • Use gathered information to implement prevention strategies and safeguard community health.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a reportable communicable disease, our team will provide confidential information, education, and guidance to help manage the illness and prevent further transmission.
