Maternal and Child Health Services
Herkimer County Public Health is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of pregnant individuals, new parents, and young children through education, support, and community resources. Our Maternal and Child Health Services program offers free home visits and other essential services to help families navigate pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and early childhood development.
Who Qualifies?
Our services are available to pregnant and postpartum individuals who meet medical, psychological, or pregnancy-related risk factors. Referrals are accepted from healthcare providers, birthing hospitals, and self-referrals throughout all phases of pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
Our Services Include:
- Prenatal and postpartum home visits – Assessing health, risk factors, and connecting families with necessary resources.
- Lactation counseling – Providing guidance on breastfeeding and infant nutrition.
- Childbirth education classes – Helping parents prepare for labor, delivery, and newborn care.
- Outreach education for families – Offering support on parenting, nutrition, and family planning.
- Referral services – Connecting families with local health and community programs.
